Two women aged 24 and 26 died following a diving incident at Loch Fyne in Argyll and Bute on 26 July 2026.
Emergency services were called to the area near St Catherines after reports of two divers in difficulty. A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a search was carried out for the second diver. The body of the 24-year-old woman was later recovered from the water.
Investigation continues
Police Scotland said enquiries were continuing to establish the full circumstances of the incident. Coastguard and lifeboat crews were involved in the emergency response.
Loch Fyne is used for recreational diving, but this report should not be read as an explanation of what caused the deaths. Until investigators establish the circumstances, speculation about equipment, conditions or diver behaviour would be inappropriate.
The incident is best treated as a factual news record rather than a general commentary on outdoor safety. Thoughts remain with the families and those affected.
